Welcome to our Year 1 Class Page. Here you will find information about what we are learning about in class and access resources that you might like to use at home!
This term our topic is 'Animals'. In Literacy We will be focusing on the story, 'Brown bear, Brown bear, what do you see? Children will write their own version of the story.
Literacy
In Literacy this term children will be focusing on writing their own stories and writing a set of instructions. As always we will be looking at our sentence structure and remembering capital letters, finger spaces, conjunctions and various punctuation.
Reading books will be changed on Tuesdays and Fridays. days if the pupil has read the book twice and adults have asked questions about the text. It is very important that children have a good understanding of the text. We read with the children on a daily basis through out the week so we are aware of their levels in reading and comprehension. Children will be assessed in their reading every term.
Library books- Year one are able to choose one book to borrow at the school library, books will be changed
every Thursday afternoon.
In Maths this term our focus will be on position and directions, patterns in numbers, addition and subtraction, . We will develop our mathematical vocabulary to ensure we can explain our learning and be able to solve problems with more independence.
As always we will continue our number work by practicing daily our counting and learning our number bonds.
For our PE lessons this term our focus will be on dance.
This term our PE lessons will take place on a Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Please ensure earrings are removed before P.E. If they are wearing earrings they will not be allowed to take part in P.E on that day.
Please ensure all PE kit items are labelled and returned the first day of each half term.
Please make sure ALL school uniform, coats, shoes and packed lunch boxes are clearly labelled.
During this term we will be looking at humans and animals:
To identify and classify animals.
In RE we will be looking at the topic of the Creation. Children will talk about our own families and we will learn about the things Jesus did for his family.
Topic
In Music we will be learning about rhythm, following a beat, pace and different sounds made from instruments.
In Art we will be looking at the work of a famous artist during black history month.
PSHE and Emotional Literacy
In our PSHE we will continue learning about our feelings in emotional literacy. We will be thinking about the different emotions. Who we should talk to when we need help.
Home learning will be given out on a Thursday and should be returned no later than the following Tuesday. Spelling test is on Tuesdays. Children will be given new spellings on Tuesdays to learn for the following week.
The homework will be on Maths and Literacy and will be about what they have been learning in class. This will include spellings. If you have any questions regarding your child's work please come and ask.
