Phonics

What is Jolly Phonics?

Jolly Phonics is a fun filled, child centred approach to teaching literacy through sounds and actions.

How does Jolly Phonics work?

Using a multi sensory approach, Jolly Phonics teaches children the five key skills for reading and writing. The programme continues through school enabling the teaching of essential grammar, spelling and punctuation skills.

Jolly Phonics Letter Sounds (British English)

Listen to the 42 letter sounds of Jolly Phonics, spoken in British English. Each letter sound is clearly spoken twice, before an example word is given. Perfect for parents, teachers and children who aren't sure how to pronounce the letter sounds.

At Holy Family School we use The Oxford Reading Tree as our main scheme. Mixed in with this we have books from many other schemes intended to broaden the children's reading experience at every level. Children move through the reading scheme at various rates, reading more, or fewer books from each level according to their own personal reading development. Your child's teacher will always be happy to provide more information about how we teach reading at Holy Family.
